Make Your Own Thaumatrope!

Dude. I'm hungry. Aaaaaaaand tired. You know what's awesome? The 1880's through the 1940's.

3PO.

Oh the shark has pretty teeth dear,

And he shows them pearly white

Just a jack-knife has Macheath dear

And he keeps it out of sight.

On the sidewalk Sunday morning

Lies a body oozing life

Someone's sneaking 'round the corner

Is the someone Mack the Knife?

Louis Miller disappeared, dear

After drawing out his cash

And Macheath spends like a sailor

Did our boy do something rash?

From a tugbout by the river

A cement bag's dropping down

The cement's just for the weight, dear

Betcha Mackie's back in town

Sukey Tawdry, Jenny Diver

Polly Peachum, Lucie Brown:

Oh, the line forms on the right, dear

Now that Mackie's back in town

The Last Post Was Not Real.

I love the "random article" feature on Wikipedia.

Not Really.

This is the painting. There are four people in it: the woman, a man with an awesome hat, a creeper, and the man behind the counter. In case you hadn't noticed.
Particularly the three people at the bar look troubled and nervous.
It is dark, and though the streets look like they would be packed with cars, they are deserted now. It is some unseasonable hour of the night. The light should look friendly, but it only serves to heighten the feeling of lonliness.

"Why Did Bisbee's Wobblies Go On Strike?"

What was the most challenging aspect of this unit? Explain.
I think probably just figuring out what exactly we have to do. The directions were a little foggy. Also navigating the site.
What worked well for you in the research project? What helped you learn?
Ugh. Um, the internet. Yeah.
What didn't work well for you in this research project? What would have made the project better?
I can't navigate this site ! God freak.

Critique the overall human for in art research project. Should this project be taught in ninth grade Humanities English? Why or why not?
Yes, it should. What with the growing technology in our world, blah blah, it's a good thing to learn how to learn to use the internet and blogging and blah.

Edward Hopper was not a part of any particular artistic movement. However, Nighthawks was painted during world war two. So, I figure maybe I can find paintings from the time period and compare those. This is La Blouse Roumaine by Matisse, done in an obviously different style. The image is more flat in this and less lifelike. You know what is the best word ever? Lumpenproletariat. It means raggedy proletariat, and it's sometimes used as a pejorative in Russia and Estonia and thereabouts. It's a German word. If you don't believe me, look it up on Wikipedia. I put a lot of trust in Wikipedia. Too much. Oh well.

1. Write about your experiences thus far with the Human Form in Art Research Project. Have you chosen a piece of art? What questions do you still have? What are your next steps? I still have to do a lot of research. I'm working on the description, and I don't really have any questions. That I can think of, that is. I feel sick.
2. What search engines did you use? How useful did you find the online resources? What did you learn today? Have you chosen a piece of art that depicts the human form? Reflect and summarize on what you have completed thus far in this project. The online resources weren't incredibly useful. Do you mean the list of search engines, or the online instructions? I find blogger hard to navigate, And I don't see much point in switching search engines. Are some more reliable than Google? I really am sort of confused....
Anyway, yes; the painting depicts the human form. It describes human lonliness. It's sort of depressing, but I love the colors.

3. What piece of art or pieces of art have you narrowed down your choice to? What did you learn today? What are your next steps? What will you need to spend your time doing on Friday in the computer lab?I'm researching Edward Hopper's Nighthawks, pictured above. Next I will Finally write up the description. I should learn more about the time period. Ooh, we're in the computer lab Friday, too? Probably research the time period.
